Phuket Lager Beer

We recently tried a beer called Phuket Lager Beer. It is supposedly Thailand's first regional beer. Their motto is "Every day is a phuket day" (do you get it?) It tastes just like other high quality lagers; however, unlike most of its direct competitors, it comes with the tropical packaging.

If you have a chance, you should try it. Currently, the distribution is limited and, at times, unreliable (according to my wine and beer specialty store), so you may have trouble locating it. But if you do, it is worth it because drinking it feels like summer.

Steaks

This week I grilled some enormous steaks that Peyton picked up at the market. I don't eat that much red meat, but with these amazing strip steaks I could not resist. The steaks were both tender and juicy and we prepared green beans and garlic mashed potatoes to complement.

Shrimp Galore!

I've just returned from the Gulf Coast, where I probably ate my weight in shrimp.

The first shrimp dish I had was from a shrimp boil. For those of you who aren't familiar with this regional tradition, you cook potatoes, onions, corn, in a large pot with special seasonings and bring to a boil. Then you add shrimp or crawfish, or whatever else you like. In this case, my host added shrimp and 2 types of sausages (one spicy and one mild). This particular combination was new to me, but delicious.

As you can see, you just dump everything out onto a table where everyone digs in. This is really great fun and it tastes amazing.

We had so much food left over that we decided to have this for breakfast the next morning. I was really impressed by the ease with which this shrimp boil converted into breakfast.

I can't take credit for any of this, but I sure enjoyed eating it.

Breakfast menu:

Shrimp Omelet

Hashbrowns (using the potatoes and onions)

Sausages

I was impressed with the creativity and utility of these meals.

I also had lots of fried shrimp and steamed shrimp. The best was eating steamed shrimp while sitting on the beach drinking great beer. My gulf coast shrip trip was wonderful and I can't wait to do it again.
